“Adoption is a journey which can bring great happiness, but also feelings of isolation and being overwhelmed. Some people just need a helping hand for a short stretch of the journey, others needing someone to walk alongside them for longer. A professional who has expertise but who cares. Every time I meet someone as that professional I feel so privileged to be a small part of their journey”

Sarah Merrick

With over 25 years’ experience, Life Story Journeys offer people in Scotland with Therapeutic Life Story Work, Adoption and Family Support and Assessments, Training, Reflective Supervision and Independent Social Worker services.

“My sessions with Sarah have been so thought provoking and insightful. She was always just there to help and stuck with us.”

Hi, I’m Sarah

I have worked in Scotland with care experienced children and young people since the 1990s, firstly in children’s homes and residential schools. I completed my Masters and Diploma in Social Work in 2000 and moved to local authority work focusing on those children in foster care.

I have been an adoption social worker for 18 years, and as time passes specialising in therapeutic life story work and adoption support. In order to enhance my own knowledge, a Certificate in Counselling, Level One and Two in DDP (Dan Hughes’ Dyadic Developmental Practice/ Parenting), Diploma in Therapeutic Life Story Work and a forthcoming Theraplay qualification have all followed.
